“Altered Beast” is Clot apparel’s new Fall/Winter 2022 collection inspired by the mythical creatures that populate the tales of the world’s oldest cultures.
CLOT celebrates the mythological beasts halfway between humans and fierce animals of Chinese tradition in an explosive mix of animalier patterns and traditional silhouettes.

Unusual and evocative, the new CLOTH Apparel collection also takes its cues from various Egyptian deities, which Edison Chen has been passionate about since he was a child. Many designs on tees and sweatshirts are “in between” various styles, this one, Chen explains, takes inspiration from the characters depicted by Egyptian culture, which could sometimes be four things in one:
“I am a fan of Egyptian history and culture. One of the most striking images from that period are the drawings of people who are four different kinds of things in one entity. To understand that culture you have to drop everything you think you know and try to understand what they are trying to represent.”
The collection includes an explosive mix of animal-print T-shirts, sweatshirts, shirts, two cheongsam jackets with collars and buttonholes with typical ancient Chinese knots, patterned logos, faux fur lining and asymmetrical patterns on oversize shapes.
For the FW22 campaign, Chen commissioned artist Tetsuya Nagato to shoot two major celebrities in China: actor Yōsuke Kubozuka and model Kozue Akimoto.
Nagato‘s shots are a ‘mix-and-match’, ‘mashup’, between humans and ferocious animals: a style that perfectly matches the mood of the campaign.
