For Converse, collaborations are now part of its DNA.
Whether it is new silhouettes or reinterpretations of classic models, the brand continues its stylistic research through the different keys of artists like Tyler, the Creator or brands like A-COLD-WALL*.
The latest collaboration with New York-based brand Barriers Worldwide pays homage to “The North Star,” a 19th-century slavery newspaper that made a difference in an era marked by inequality and racism.
The capsule includes both footwear and apparel, such as the Chuck 70 and Pro Leather, featuring a unique look with contrasting laces and shell-shaped lace fasteners.
The shell is an element that returns spectually in this collection: it historically symbolizes the only currency of ancient African civilizations, which survived even during slavery. The reference to that period is poignant and incisive, and it continues on the apparel collection as well.
Each garment uses elements of the Barriers brand and Converse’s star motif.
