He is inspired by the contradictions of his city, Los Angeles, multimedia artist Matt McCormick.
The characters that populate his works are Cowboys from American Westerns who no longer fight Indians, but against consumerism and the disproportions between wealth and poverty in the United States.
A nostalgia for the American dream faded by utopia, he never lapses into “the way we were” rhetoric, rather he ridicules its retroactive thinking, depicting a “real” country populated by the heroes of Western comic books. McCormick‘s art embodies the true spirit of America: seemingly incompatible elements coexist with ease, reflecting the contrasting histories of Western culture.
McCormick‘s works reflect on the stark contrast between the glorious legacy of the Wild West and the current disconsolate disposable culture of today’s States.
He creates work on canvas and cardboard media and on t-shirts, hoodies, and sweatshirts for “One of These Days,” the streetwear brand he founded in 2019 with the intention of launching an artistic vision as unique and dynamic as the topography itself.
