James Lavelle is a pioneer of the trip hop and breakbeat genre: with his multifaceted and eclectic approach, he pioneered interdisciplinary collaborationsq between music, art, fashion and street culture as we know them today.
He is the founder of the band UNKLE and of Mo’ Wax Records, a label founded in 1992 – still active today – that has profoundly influenced the global underground scene, launching artists such as AIR, DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, and Blackalicious.
On the occasion of the iconic record label’s 30th anniversary, Lavelle wanted to celebrate with an extraordinary collaboration, involving Roland Lifestyle, Pleasures and artist Eric Haze.
The streetwear capsule features eye-catching designs, featuring hoodies, T-shirts with typically “Pleasures”-style patterns and prints that replace the brand’s L.A. logo, Lavelle‘s band name, UNKLE; co-branded caps, references to the Roland Boutique TB-03 line.
“The impact that Mo’ Wax, UNKLE and James Lavelle have had on music and underground culture is what inspired us to found Pleasures”, said Vlad Elkin, co-founder of the L.A. based brand; collaborations that honor the legacy of people like him are part of our DNA, and it was an honor to join a group of iconic and eclectic brands for this capsule collection.”
“Bringing together music, fashion, and art to create a capsule collection and produce a show that celebrates the impact of these iconic brands is a legacy in the making,” said Nathan Chandra, founder of Roland Lifestyle, “It has been an extraordinary experience to be a part of this project, and the care with which the collaboration has been carried out is indicative of the respect that all parties involved in this initiative have for each other.”
The Roland Lifestyle x Pleasures Mo’ Wax / UNKLE collaboration premiered at Roland’s London flagship on October 12 with a free live performance by DJ James Lavelle and Pleasures Soundsystem in collaboration with Mo’ Wax.
