Renowned Australian Queer artist Kris Andrew Small has teamed up with adidas – the occasion of the #PRIDEMONTH – to create a joyful capsule collection inspired by the pop art and graphic style of the 1970s and 1980s.
As a Queer and as an artist, he has used has conveyed his artwork to channel a message of inclusion and positive change in society, reminding everyone that there are still so many LGBTQIA+ people who are ghettoized, vulnerable and repressed.
Kris’ artistic language is abstract and very colorful. Her paintings and illustrations often conceal concepts centered on self-love, and the staordinar sides of being Queer.
Kris encourages emerging artists to be inspired by their gender identity-whatever it may be-embracing it with love and uniqueness, feeling free to express themselves through their artistic production.
For the creation of this collection, Kris Andrew Small wanted to celebrate the Queer movement through the boundless use of color, reworking the rainbow symbol in a completely personal way.
The result is a pack adaptable to any gender, consisting of classic sneakers such as Stan Smiths and Superstars and statement apparel such as tees, sweatshirts, shorts
“From a creative point of view, I wanted it to be a big celebration of movement, color and joy. I also wanted it to be a bit of a reworking of the traditional visual language of rainbow and pride that we’re used to seeing.”
When I was younger and I was so afraid of being queer, what empowered me was when I started showing this side of me and incorporating it into my work, it made me feel liberated and free.”
