Founded in New York City by Dave Ortiz, Dave’s Quality Meat (or just DQM) was one of the first concept store in NYC, it became a Mecca for sneakerheads and skaters in the early ‘00s. Born from the idea that clients must live the shop in a friendly way and not like the others Boutique with their “don’t touch anything” policy and a too serious approach.

Be cool to the People was the only Rule!

So, the store was like a Butcher shop with a real Meatpacking from the Butcher District. When Nike decided to collaborate on a sneaker, Dave was sure that he wanted something that was “function before fashion” picking the Nike Air Max 90. The funny fact was that he had no clue about what to do and the time was short, he got an “aha-moment” when he started to make up a Sandwich with all the ingredients… the idea popped up in his mind when it came to Bacon. Immediately he started buying other Bacon’s package to study all the color’s shade. A Nike sneaker inspired by Bacon? Why Not!

Everyone loves Bacon!

The idea was set but Dave needed someone capable to realize what was in his mind, that’s why he linked up with Thomas Fenning who designed for Supreme and Stussy to realize the final mock-up, Jesse Leyva (Nike’s creative director in that period) loved them. The rest is history. The Nike Air Max 90 “Bacon” still one of the most beloved sneaker collab ever.
