If you thought it was just a passing trend, you were wrong.
Trail shoes are not only surviving, but season after season they are gaining more and more character, enriching themselves with new models, more and more suitable for the urban lifestyle.
They made their first appearance on Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2018 – 2019 runway: the model took inspiration from climbing and mountain trekking boots, but with a glam touch given by the strap with faux gemstones:
He continued by riding the trend the Scandinavian IT-Brand Acne Studios, which included them in the spring 2019 collections:
Finally Prada, which focused on the classic red leather and lace-up ankle boots as they were used for climbing in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
From there on it was everywhere: Raf Simons, the Gucci x North Face collab, Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Miu Miu, Loewe. In short, the classic hikers’ boots became a fashion statement, reaching the peak of the trend between 2021 and 2022.
Of course, most of the people who wear them today have never trekked the lashing terrains of the mountains, climbed 10,000 meters high or simila. But if they suddenly found themselves in such a situation, they would certainly have the right shoes.
The world of Sneaker Culture seemed to be saturated with all kinds of silhouettes, and instead – a sport as old as the world, though little practiced until recently, has introduced a brand new style, far removed from the “graceful” and streamlined models to which basketball, or the essential and elegant ones of tennis, have accustomed us.
Hiking shoes are almost “ungainly” and “clunky,” attributable more to “gorpcore” fashion, and yet, they have been definitively deprovincialized by designers, artists and creatives who have been sporting them with the most varied outfits.
This trend will persist over time, we can swear, so why not take a look at this selection of hiking, trail running and hicking sneakers online.
